Jahan Moni: Due in Somalian waters December 11

Bulker Jahan Moni is now 600 nautical miles off Somali coast.
At the speed of around 10 nautical miles an hour, The hijacked Bangladesh-flag ship will touch the Somali coast by the morning of December 11.

In the last 7-14 days, the majority of the pirate attacks have been around 69-70 E – only a few hundred miles from the Maldives, a country that is 99 percent sea, an area larger than the size of mainland Europe.

As merchant ships have increased their distance from Somalia in search of “safer” transport routes, pirates operating from the country have followed in pursuit.

Jahan Moni: off Lakshadweep I. to Haradheere

Bulk carrier Jahan Moni appears to be heading towards the Somali coast. It was hijacked on Nov.5 as it was approaching the Lakshadweep Islands, started heading for the coast at a speed of 10 nautical mile an hour at 4:00pm, said the Mercantile Marine Department of Bangladesh that is monitoring the ship via satellite. Brave Royal Ship Management, the operating company of the vessel, said it received a message from the ship's security cell at about 3.30pm on Sunday. The message read the ship had come under pirate attack. "We got the same message for the second time at about 4.30pm and stayed in contact with the crew members until 5.30pm. We lost contact after that," said Meherul Karim, General Manager of Brave Royal Shipping Management.
The Bangladeshi-flagged ship was taken around 300 nautical miles (550km) off the coast of the southern Indian city of Kochi. The vessel carrying 43,150 tonnes of nickel was on its way to Greece from Indonesia through the Suez Canal. It anchored at the Singapore port for refuelling before heading for Greece. more earlier

Jahan Moni: BSA bulker - stress, alarm, erratic

Jahan Moni, owned by Brave Royal Shipping Ltd was heading towards Europe with merchandise from Singapore, came under attack twice by pirates in a space of 90 minutes, Rear Admiral Bazlur Rahman said.
"All symptoms are there that the pirates have taken control of the ship. It was chased by the pirates for more than an hour. It has sent stress signal and then raised security alarm. Now it is showing erratic movement," he said.
