Hezbollah perhaps moves anti-ship missiles to Lebanon,

Thousands of P-15s were built and installed on many classes of ships from MTBs to destroyers, as well coastal batteries. The P-15 was quite successful in the conflicts where it was deployed.

According to an American official, there could be upwards of 12 Russian-made anti-ship cruise missiles in Hezbollah’s possession inside Syria. The official stated that while the organization had successfully smuggled at least some of the parts of the weapons into Lebanon this past year amid the chaos of the Syrian conflict, not all required parts had been transferred.

[November 5 2009]

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki protested, "the report was not true. The ship was heading for Iran from Syria carrying Syrian goods, not weapons."

Israel Defense Force Commando Unit 13 knew what they were looking for. 36 of the 400 containers on board the Francop were intended for Hezbollah, "Hezbollah categorically denies it has any connection with the weapons which the Zionist enemy claims it seized aboard the Francop ship," Hezbollah said in a statement faxed to The Associated Press in Beirut.

IDF sources said that they were not ruling out the possibility that some of the mortar shells were manufactured in Israel and painted to make them look new. Israel's Soltam Company sold thousands of mortar shells to Iran during the regime of the Shah in the 1970s and some of them are believed to have been already transferred to Hizbullah in the past.

The Spanish crates were carrying 106 mm. shells and each had the words "2 Disparos" written on them, meaning two shots, for the number of rockets inside.

The 107 mm. rockets were in crates claiming that they were manufactured in 2007. There were even instruction manuals inside in English explaining how to handle the rocket, carry it and even place it inside a launcher.

The 122 mm. Katyusha rockets appeared to have been manufactured in Russia since they were covered in Russian writing. Some of the Kalashnikov bullets likely came from China.

EMS River: German Marines on AG-flag vessel?

Of the over 3,500 ships of the German merchant fleet currently more than 3,000 are "temporarily under a foreign flag," the euphemistic term. The freshly hijacked "Ems River" is a classic example of more than 80 percent of the German merchant fleet: The ship was built at a shipyard in Bangladesh for the shipping company Grona Shipping in Papenburg. Of the eight crew members, seven seamen from the Philippines, one is from Russia. The ship sails under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. Under the flag of the tiny island nation in the Caribbean a total of 981 ships pass (2005, recent data are not available), 953 of whom are from other states refuge under the flag, of which 853 from Germany. The VDR German shipping association has called for more protection of German ships after numerous attacks. VDR now demands the use of "sovereign armed forces" on board the ships by armed federal police officers or soldiers. "There will be discussions but no concrete legislation is planned," the spokesman said. He added the European Union's Operation Atalanta launched in 2008 provides a framework for deterring pirates and protecting shipping. Officials from the ministries of defense, foreign affairs, transport, interior and justice will attend the meeting, as will Deputy Economics Minister Hans-Joachim Otto. It is expected to take place on January 24.

Beluga Fortune: ducked into panic room, cut fuel

Hijackers fled a heavy-lift cargo ship and a British frigate took charge.
Beluga Fortune's crew sent out an emergency call, barricaded themselves in a special security room, shut off the fuel supply and the bridge and informed the military. "This way the pirates could not bring the ship under their control or take the sailors at ransom." Beluga Shipping GmbH says that a British frigate, a surveillance plane and a helicopter were involved in freeing the German cargo ship. The rescue was peaceful because by the time the military entered the Beluga Fortune the pirates had already fled. The crew had trained for an emergency situation like this many times over the years. here

Magellan Star: in a convoy under USN escort

Magellan Star, container ship en route from Spain to Vietnam, traveled in a convoy of four ships, and they had escort protection by military ships. Therefore, the rescuers got there very quickly. The convoy had spread quite far apart. [Escort include the USN Dubuque and the USN Princeton, as well as Turkish frigate TCG Gokceada ] The problem is that when the military ships are too concentrated around one location. The raid took place about 85 miles southeast of Mukallah, Yemen,
