Kearsarge ARG: completed a series of operations





Amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge and the USS Ponce departed Souda Bay, Crete. Assisted by 400 troops from Camp Lejeune’s 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines, the unit undertook a series of operations to help to help evacuate Egyptians, who fled to the Tunisian border from Libya, and return them to their native country. The group is equipped with Harrier AV-8B jump-jet warplanes. Approximately 2,200 Marines and sailors with the 22nd MEU will depart mid-April for a variety of operations in support of U.S. Africa, European and Central Commands, the Marine Corps announced March 9.

Kearsarge: docked in Souda Bay, Crete

Amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge and the USS Ponce arrived at Souda Bay, Crete , carrying a total of around 4000 personnel, including 1300 US Marines docked at an American base .
The ships docked in Crete two days after 400 Marines, from the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, also arrived in Crete.
Meanwhile, Canadian frigate HMCS Charlottetown plans to stop at Gibraltar on Wednesday to refuel. It's still unclear what the ship will do when it arrives at the Libyan coast on March 11.

rachel corrie: 480 to a Beersheba prison



"We have not made a final decision yet, but 'Rachel Corrie' is coming. She left Malta on her way to Gaza the night before last and she should be coming near Crete today," Bomse said, adding she was proceeding slowly.
About 480 of the foreign activists who were stopped by Israel on the high seas while sailing to Gaza were transferred over night to a prison in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba where they were being questioned.

Another 48 activists had already been transported to Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv to be expelled abroad.
