Pirates in the Mozambican channel





South Africa will dispatch frigate SAS Mendi F148 to the Mozambican channel to patrol the waters and help counter piracy. "We remain very concerned about the intrusion of piracy into our space.."

Taipan: hijacked Liberian-flag ZIM charter





Liberian-flag Taipan IMO 810591 a container ship plying the Israel-South Africa route, chartered by Zim, was hijacked some 900 kilometers off the Somali coast earlier that day and freed by a Dutch helicopter and marines from the Tromp under the command of naval captain Col. Hans Lodder.
